It’s March and I am still finding Chrsitmas gifts on clearance to add to my gift box. In a previous post I mentioned the Rubbermaid boxes I place gifts in as I buy them. My frugal nature leads me to search the clearance shelves for birthday and Christmas gifts all year. Just such an opportunity presented itself when I stopped into Kohl’s with my husband the other evening. My eye caught glimpse of the Christmas gift display that was buried in the men’s section. I knew there must be further markdowns so I checked it out. The prices marked were all $5.00 and under and I wondered if the actual prices were lower than those marked. Using the Scanner feature in my Kohl’s app, I found out my hunch was correct. $11.00 seemed a reasonable amount to pay for 4 gifts, so I placed them in my cart. If my husband couldn’t find what he was looking for, I could use the coupons and Kohl’s cash on the gifts.
I found some Dr. Seuss books and matching plush characters in the Kohl’s Cares area. At $5.00 a piece, I could afford those for my classroom. I also found a book and plush set for $5.00. I’ve been looking for an item like this for our granddaughter’s Easter Basket, so in it went, too.
Michael’s search was unfruitful so guess who was able to use the coupons? The $11.00 in coupons paid for my gifts! We couldn’t use all of the Kohl’s cash we had available because the Kohl’s Cares items are exempt.
Our final price was $26.50 for 9 items, 5 of them being gifts. Not too bad!
