My review of a new devotional app: Awakening to God or ATG Today.
I was able to explore a new devotional app recently called, Awakening to God or ATG Today.
Now, one thing to note about me. I love books! I like the smell of books, the feel of the pages between my fingers, the sound of turning pages… you get it. I am a book nerd. So, you can imagine I was a bit reluctant to try a devotional app. After a few days, I found out just how easy it is. So much of my life is in/on my iphone. I have a million photos of the people and things I hold dear on it. I also use my phone as an alarm clock and I check for notifications as I make coffee. As I write this post, I realize just how much that phone is in my hands!
Using the first 8 minutes of my day to read and memorize a verse is actually very easy with this app. There are quick journal prompts and I can journal as much or as little as I like. When I used my paper journal during my morning quiet time with the Lord, I found that often I would stare at the beautiful pages, mindful of the limited time remaining before I had before I had to leave for work. It was too much pressure some days.
I have been able to look back and see just how God has brought me through some scary times, blessed me through the birth of our granddaughter and revealed things He wanted me to focus on. I have attached photos to most of my journal entries, so it has become a beautiful and yet very private, prayer journal.
Recently, I added another step to my use of this app: finishing the day reflecting on God’s goodness and how He spoke to me throughout the day. You simply tap on the moon icon on the top right corner of your journal screen. This sort of personal reflection is so very important and a crucial element in our personal growth. We all need time to reflect on what worked well today (and perhaps what didn’t), how we were blessed and what God was laying on our hearts.
