While at Sam’s Club recently, I found a box of Organic Chia Seed, packaged in single serving “sachets,” as the box says. There were 30 sachets, or pouches, in a box for under $4.00, so my budget could afford this little experiment. I have tried chia seeds in smoothies and baked goods and have had great success. Chia seeds are high in Omega-3 and antioxidants. I love these little guys!
There was a recipe on the side of the box that intrigued me. If nothing else, I could continue to add the chia to my smoothies, so I gave it a try.
1 sachet of chia seed
1 glass of water
half a lemon
1 tsp. of maple syrup
Mix all ingredients and let sit for 5 minutes. Stir again and enjoy.
I really think it is a texture thing for me. I couldn’t get beyond the glutenous glob that clung to the surface of the drink. I stirred it. I used warm water. I used herbal tea. Added more syrup. No matter what I did, I realized this is just NOT the drink for me.
Give it a try though. You may find it works for you. For me, I will continue to enjoy them in smoothies and baked goods.
