I had a chance to review this feature-length documentary film, Patterns of Evidence: The Exodus. The premise itself was very interesting: filmmaker Timothy Mahoney has a crisis of faith as he investigates the Bible’s account of Exodus. Not only does his research findings challenge his faith, it creates a tremendous shift in the focus of the film. So the question became, “Is there any evidence that the foundational story of Exodus really happened?”
I was blown away by the depth of research, which took 12 years to complete. Talk about being committed to the cause! Famous archeologists and world leaders were interviewed along way, each providing another very interesting thread in this magnificent tapestry of history.
I was expecting to see the filmmaker take a solid stance or answer the question early on in the documentary, however the experts that were interviewed were from both sides of the argument, so-to-speak. Not once could I detect which side the filmmaker was on. As a viewer, I appreciate being allowed to think for myself.
